Excimer light is a form of targeted phototherapy that delivers a specific wavelength (308 nm) of ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation using an excimer laser or an excimer lamp.It is useful in various treatments in skin disorders.It is a pain-free treatment with no downtime. The UV light produced through a handheld excimer device is delivered directly to the localised vitiligo or psoriasis or other skin lesion. It delivers UVB radiation of wavelength 308 nm. The lesion is irradiated for a specific duration of time. It is very useful if lesions are localised and small. Excimer laser is often combined with creams like steroids and calcineurin inhibitors to enhance the clinical outcome. Generally, patients are called for therapy 1-3 times a week. The radiation dose is calculated according to skin type, type of lesion, site and treatment response. A positive response can be expected in 6-8 sessions. Number of sessions required depends on individual response, on average 20-30 sessions may be required.
