Vitiligo is also referred to as 'leucoderma.' It is an auto-immune disorder with a genetic predisposition. Vitiligo treatment typically takes a long time. Medical treatment slows the progression of depigmentation and, in some cases, restores pigmentation. In the majority of cases, medical therapy only stabilizes the vitiligo patch and does not result in repigmentation. Various dermatological techniques can, however, achieve repigmentation in cases of stable vitiligo.' The de-pigmented patch is said to be stable if it does not grow in size over a two-year period. This is the ideal time to have vitiligo surgery. If the patch is growing or active, it must be treated with medications and/or PUVA until it stops growing. The method to be used is determined by the type and location of the lesion. As a result, selecting the appropriate surgical technique is critical for good cosmetic results. Mini-punch grafting, thin split-thickness grafts, and suction blister grafting are surgical treatments.
